Phobias and Fears

Is it possible to get relief from a phobia in as few as three sessions? The answer is YES!

A phobia is defined as an exaggerated, usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects, or situation. It's a fear that can make you run out of a room if you see a spider or tree roach, or stop dead in your tracks if you are walking down the street and see a dog up ahead.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, phobias are the most common mental disorders in the United States. In the U.S. Population, about 10 percent of people suffer from specific phobias, and 7.1 percent suffer from social phobia (also commonly referred to as social anxiety). These numbers may actually be higher because mental disorders tend to be under-reported.

Phobias can be debilitating, and can cause mild to self-imposed lifestyle restrictions. A person with a freeway phobia may have difficulty traveling around a large city, being forced to stick to surface roads. And people with a fear of flying may alter work or vacation plans that would require a plane trip to another city.

Phobias are an anxiety disorder and if you can't avoid what you fear, you can experience extreme anxiety. You can even feel anxiety just thinking about the subject of your fear.

Quick tip: if you feel panicky about your phobia, use the proven calming method of 7-11 breathing (click on image at right).
